Barrington Hall

  • Earlier Houses: There was an earlier moated house that was sited to the north of the village of Hatfield Broad Oak.

    Built / Designed For: John Shales Barrington

    House & Family History: Barrington Hall may have been designed by Joseph Sanderson circa 1734. The service wing, including the kitchen, dates from circa 1790. The house was altered to its present Jacobethan style by Edward Browning in 1863. The British Livestock Company purchased Barrington in 1977 and used the house for offices until 1980, when it became the headquarters of Contemporary Perfumers Ltd., a purpose it served until 2012. Barrington Hall, together with 41 acres, was listed for sale for £15 million in November of 2019.
