Beddington Place (Beddington Park) (Carew Manor)

  • Earlier Houses: There was an earlier house on the site of the current house.

    House & Family History: Beddington's Medieval Great Hall (a remnant from the earlier house) is similar, on a smaller scale, to the Great Hall at Hampton Court Palace. Sir Francis Carew entertained Queen Elizabeth I here for three days in 1599. Between 1866 and 1968 Beddington served as the Lambeth Female Orphan Asylum/Royal Female Orphanage.
