Billingham Manor (Billingham House)

  • Earlier Houses: There was at least one earlier house on, or near, the site of the current house (a house was listed here in the "Domesday Book").

    House & Family History: Billingham Manor is notable for its 18th century rotating bookcase (hidden by a sliding panel) that accesses a secret passage under the house that was probably once used by smugglers. The author J.B. Priestley is believed to have written his 1939 autobiography, "Rain Upon Godshill: A Further Chapter of Autobiography," in the house. In February of 2024 Billingham Manor, together with 130 acres, was listed for sale for £3 million.
