Ferney Hall

  • Earlier Houses: An earlier house was destroyed by fire in 1856 and replaced by the current house.

    Built / Designed For: William Willoughby George Hurt Sitwell

    House & Family History: During the first years of World War II Ferney Hall was occupied by the Royal Army Service Corps; it was later used to house Italian and Germans POWs. The South Shropshire District Council, owner of Ferney for many years, listed the house for sale in October of 2003 for £650,000 (it had been vacant since 1941). In 2010 the house was sold for £1.55 million to Hugh Fitzwilliam-Lay, who restored the house and converted it back into a private home.

  • Garden & Outbuildings: Humprhy Repton's Red Book for Ferney is today in the collection of The Morgan Library, New York.
