Foxwarren Park (Fox Warren)

  • Built / Designed For: Charles Buxton

House & Family History: Foxwarren is a classic polychrome brick Victorian Gothic style house, complete with stepped gables, a tower, and terracotta plaques. During World War II the Foxwarren Estate was home to a Vickers research facility that worked on Operation Chastise, a secret project to develop "bouncing bombs." These special bombs were used in the raid commonly known as the Dambusters Raid the night of May 16-17, 1943, when the Royal Air Force attacked German dams in the Ruhr Valley. In the early 1960s Elizabeth Taylor and her husband Eddie Fisher rented Foxwarren as their temporary home while Liz was filming "Cleopatra" for 20th Century Fox at nearby Pinewood Studios.
