House & Family History: Henry VII was a guest at Holme Pierrepont in 1487. Lady Mary Wortley-Montagu (1689-1762, born Mary Pierrepont), the eldest child of Evelyn Pierrepont, 1st Duke of Kingston-upon-Hull, spent part of her childhood at Holme Pierrepont. Lady Mary is remembered today for her letters from travels to the Ottoman Empire, as wife to the British ambassador to Constantinople, and for introducing and advocating for smallpox inoculation in Europe.
